It's That Time of Year

Anytime we head out of town it's either to the cabin, which we love, or Twin Falls, which we love because of the base jumping. Every once in a while we decide to make a mini vacation out of it and stay over a night or two usually at the Comfort Inn in Twin Falls. Due to the popularity of the year round, legal base jumping off of the bridge, they offer special discounts through out the city's hotels and restraunt s. So now that the weather is showing SOME glimpse of spring, we took advantage of that spring-like weather over the weekend and headed over to Twin. The wind ended up being too strong to the point of blowing a couple of canopies into large trees right as they landed. So a rather disappointing day of no base jumping ended up being a much needed relaxing evening. The next morning, throughout the entire rest of the day was calm as could be, perfect base jumping conditions.

Sometimes it's a bit frightening to see Chuck into these sports but you just can't worry yourself sick over the what ifs. Chuck love's the skydiving, base jumping and speed flying and he's great at it. I see all the pre-cautions he takes and he doesn't mess around trying to get as close to death as he can. I'm sooooooooo thankful for that because most in this sport do exactly that! It's funny as I write this because these pictures look like he's a crazy man with an unpacked chute, standing on top of the rail OF the bridge! It's not as bad as it looks, really. You just have to be there to get it.

I enjoy watching and taking the video and pictures as well as meeting other base jumpers and tourists stopping by from all over the country and sometimes from all over the world. There are a couple elderly men that live vicariously through the base jumpers. They walk the greenbelt along the canyon everyday and are always on top of what's going with every base jumper. I just found out that one of them named Art is a Fin! He had some fun stories from his past and spoke a little of Fin. It was an all familiar sounding language from all of our Finish acquaintances in Israel.

  1. I'll admit that Chuck is very careful about how he prepares for a jump - but I'll also admit that it still scares me to death to see him up on that rail! I'm glad that you find it enjoyable to go out on adventures like that with him. It takes a very brave woman.
